Children Will Face ‘Naked’ Airport Scans

All selected children will have to go through the new full-body ‘naked’ scanning machines being introduced at airports, the Government said today. Transport Secretary Lord Adonis clarified the ruling as he announced a consultation process on the use of scanners. Civil rights groups have raised legal and privacy concerns about the scanners, which have been introduced at Manchester and Heathrow airports following the failed transatlantic plane bomb attack last Christmas. Gatwick and Birmingham will have the devices by the end of the year.

President Obama’s fiscal 2011 budget will generate nearly $10 trillion in cumulative budget deficits over the next 10 years, $1.2 trillion more than the administration projected, and raise the federal debt to 90 percent of the nation’s economic output by 2020, the Congressional Budget Office reported Thursday. In its 2011 budget, which the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released Feb. 1, the administration projected a 10-year deficit total of $8.53 trillion.

Schoolchildren were left crying and suffering panic attacks after a school role play which saw one of their teachers apparently shot dead in the playground. The pupils, aged ten to 13, watched aghast as their religious education teacher ran across a field without warning and fell to the ground following a loud bang. Some were so traumatised that they were sick afterwards, parents said.

On a narrow and hard-fought 219-212 vote late on Sunday, House Democrats approved the most dramatic health policy changes in four decades. The vote sends the bill, already approved by the Senate, to Obama to sign into law. The overhaul expands the government health plan for the poor, imposes new taxes on the wealthy and bars insurance practices such as refusing to cover people with pre-existing medical conditions.

The German news magazine Der Spiegel has reported that Saudi Arabia is hoping Israel will strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, and is even prepared to open its skies to Israeli warplanes to allow such an operation to take place.
